Psalm 16

Preserve me, O God, for I take refuge in You.
I said to the Lord, "You are my Lord;
I have no good besides You."

As for the saints who are in the earth,
They are the majestic ones in whom is all my delight.
The sorrows of those who have bartered for another god will be multiplied;
I shall not pour out their drink offerings of blood,
Nor will I take their names upon my lips.

The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup;
You support my lot.
The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places;
Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me.

I will bless the Lord who has counseled me;
Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night.
I have set the Lord continually before me;
Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will dwell securely.
For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol;
Nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay.

You will make known to me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.

tap root

Most trees have a tap root. a tap root is a large root that grows down vertically and, after a few years, changes and other roots grow horizontally from it. a tap root helps sustain a tree in high winds.

we visited a farm recently where the family is rooted in a legacy that resembles the tap root. Farmer Frank and his wife bought the acreage that they named Tap Root Farm over 50 years ago with hopes that their family would grow "roots" deep into the land, the land would provide most of what they needed, and their family would storm through on the farm for generations to come.

it was such a pleasure meeting Farmer Frank, his daughter, Susan, and their family. we are thankful for the tour and the time they spent with us. we were enlightened by the beauty and the richness of the land and how the farm is used to provide for their family.

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord

And whose trust is the Lord.

For he will be like a tree planted by the water,

That extends its roots by a stream

And will not fear when the heat comes;

But its leaves will be green,

And it will not be anxious in a year of drought

Nor cease to yield fruit.

~ Jeremiah 17:7-8

til there was you

There were bells on the hill
But I never heard them ringing
No, I never heard them at all
Til there was you.

There were birds in the sky
But I never saw them winging
No, I never saw them at all
Til there was you.

And there was music,
And there were wonderful roses,
They tell me,
In sweet fragrant meadows of dawn and dew.

There was love all around
But I never heard it singing
No, I never heard it at all
Til there was you!

Psalm 146

Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord, O my soul!
I will praise the Lord while I live;
I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.

Do not trust in princes,
In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation.
His spirit departs, he returns to the earth;
In that very day his thoughts perish.
How blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
Whose hope is in the Lord his God,
Who made heaven and earth,
The sea and all that is in them;
Who keeps faith forever;
Who executes justice for the oppressed;
Who gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets the prisoners free.

The Lord opens the eyes of the blind;
The Lord raises up those who are bowed down;
The Lord loves the righteous;
The Lord protects the strangers;
He supports the fatherless and the widow,
But He thwarts the way of the wicked.
The Lord will reign forever,
Your God, O Zion, to all generations.
Praise the Lord!

hallelujah

HE IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN, INDEED!

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning,
the women took spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.
They found the stone rolled away from the tomb,
but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
While they were wondering about this,
suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them.
In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground,
but the men said to them, 'Why do you look for the living among the dead?
He is not here; he has risen!'
Luke 24:1-6

"Atoning Sacrifice
Keeper of this life
Hallelujah, you are Savior

Beginning and the End
Forgiver of my sin
By your mercy you have saved us

Jesus, you are stronger
More than any other
Hallelujah, what a Savior

Jesus, you are higher
My soul's deepest desire
Hallelujah, you are Savior

You are the Shepherd King
You lead us by still waters
Hallelujah, you are Savior

You are my only hope
Your kindness is my friend
In your presence, you restore us

Jesus, you are stronger
More than any other
Hallelujah, what a Savior

Jesus, you are higher
My soul's deepest desire
Hallelujah, you are Savior

You are the way the truth and the life
You are my joy and my salvation
Stood in my place, taking my shame upon your shoulders

Jesus, you are stronger
More than any other
Hallelujah, what a Savior

Jesus, you are higher
My soul's deepest desire
Hallelujah, you are Savior"

loved

"There is no surprise more magical than the surprise of being loved." ~ Charles Morgan

Luke 23:13-24, 33-35, 44-46
Pilate summoned the chief priests and the rulers and the people, and said to them, "You brought this man to me as one who incites the people to rebellion, and behold, having examined Him before you, I have found no guilt in this man regarding the charges which you make against Him. No, nor has Herod, for he sent Him back to us; and behold, nothing deserving death has been done by Him..."

But they cried out all together, saying, "Away with this man..."

They kept on calling out, saying, "Crucify, crucify Him!"

And he said to them the third time, "Why, what evil has this man done? I have found in Him no guilt demanding death..."

But they were insistent, with loud voices asking that He be crucified. And their voices began to prevail.

...there they crucified Him...But Jesus was saying, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing." ...And the people stood by, looking on...

It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour,
because the sun was obscured; and the veil of the temple was torn in two.

And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit."

Having said this, He breathed His last.

Hosanna, Hosanna

"Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken,
let us be thankful,
and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,
for our 'God is a consuming fire.'"
Hebrews 12:28-29

"I see the King of glory
Coming on the clouds with fire
The whole earth shakes,
The whole earth shakes

I see His love and mercy
Washing over all our sin
The people sing, the people sing

Hosanna, Hosanna
Hosanna in the highest
Hosanna, Hosanna
Hosanna in the highest

I see a generation
Rising up to take their place
With selfless faith, selfless faith

I see a near revival
Stirring as we pray and seek
We're on our knees,
We're on our knees

Hosanna, Hosanna
Hosanna in the highest
Hosanna, Hosanna
Hosanna in the highest

Heal my heart and make it clean
Open up my eyes to the things unseen
Show me how to love
Like you have loved me

Break my heart for what breaks yours
Everything I am
For your kingdom's cause
As I walk from earth into eternity

Hosanna, Hosanna
Hosanna in the highest
Hosanna, Hosanna
Hosanna in the highest

Hosanna, Hosanna
Hosanna in the highest
Hosanna, Hosanna
Hosanna in the highest

Hosanna in the highest
Hosanna in the highest
Hosanna in the highest"

"Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord;
Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!"
Luke 19:38

preparation

"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith,
who for the joy set before him endured the cross,
scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
Hebrews 12:2

found in Google images

honestly, fixing my eyes on Jesus is really difficult at times. when i am warring with myself, i often question the strength of my beliefs.

who is Jesus to me?
does Jesus reign in my life?
what do i know for sure?

it is scary hanging out in such a dim place. yet, i find that it is me who is withdrawn from Him, not God who is distant from me. and i begin craving the times when i am on fire for Him, when i am aware of his very presence in my life.

i have screamed at God trying to feel in control.

all the while, knowing that i am blessed to be on this journey because of His sacrifice.

"It is God to whom and with whom we travel,
and while He is the end of our journey,
He is also at every stopping place." ~ Elisabeth Elliot

as i prepare my heart for Easter, i am reflecting on His truths and embracing more deeply what i know for sure. His birth, life, death, and resurrection mean everything.

God can handle our doubting, even our screaming at Him, and He loves us unconditionally despite it. God knows when we are plowing through the dim places. and He encourages us to let Him heal and refine us, instead of demanding our way. and, if we walk in his timing, we move closer to who he created us to be, we move closer to why He endured the cross.

"This is my body which is given for you;
do this in remembrance of me...
This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood."
Luke 22:19-20

Psalm 91

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God in whom I trust."

Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.

A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.

You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
If you make the Most High your dwelling-
even the Lord, who is my refuge-
then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.

For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

"Because he loves me," says the Lord, "I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation."
