co-worker

this week, my husband's co-worker's wife was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. they have 2 children, ages 16 and 12. she is a fellow home educator, i might add.

with the notion that i can't completely, i have been placing myself in her shoes since hearing the news. all of the "normal" questions come to mind: what would that gut-wrenching news feel like? how would i react in the moment? would i be able to say anything? how would i tell my children? how do you face your own mortality?

and then the question struck me. if faced today with my own mortality, could i say that i lived my life to the fullest?

or

would there be a lot of should-a, would-a?

wish i had done, didn't do?

was going to do, never did?

wanted to, never pursued?

really, a lifetime is not a lifetime. we can never do or accomplish everything in our lifetime. "our days on the earth are like a shadow." one day we are moving right along, minding countless responsibilities, soaking up the sunshine rays, kissing our loved ones goodnight...and...WHAM...we, as we knew us, are no more. we are now face to face with each minute, every second, of our life. and somehow the ordinary moments become extraordinary. our days, which were busy before become full. full of everything that with just one whisper might be gone today...this minute...this second.

i pray that she knows the faithfulness and beauty of our God. i pray that she knows His lovingkindness that is everlasting. i pray that she knows His greatness and strength. because i can not imagine facing everyday...every minute...every second without Him.

we are merely tenants in these bodies.

everything in the heavens and the earth is His.
He is head over all.
He rules over all.
all things come from Him.
all is His.

even cancer.

hope does not exist on this earth. and without fully placing our trust in God, hope does not exist in us.

for His is the greatness...
and the power...
and the glory...
and the victory!

"Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heaves and the earth; Yours is the dominion, O Lord, and You exalt Yourself as head over all. Both riches and honor come from You, and You rule over all, and in Your hand is power and might; and it lies in Your hand to make great and to strengthen everyone. Now therefore, our God, we thank You, and praise Your glorious name."  1 Chronicles 29:11-13

4 and 31

the sun stopped shining, and the clouds dropped intensely, the calm broke to E4 madness. 4 states devastated, 31 lives lost, numerous homes destroyed, countless souls reshaped forever.

please join me in prayer for our neighbors...

In the quiet, in the stillness
I know that You are God
In the secret of Your presence
I know there I am restored

When You call I won't refuse
Each new day again I'll choose

There is no one else for me
None but Jesus
Crucified to set me free
Now I live to bring Him praise

In the chaos, in confusion
I know You're Sovereign still
In the moment of my weakness
You give me grace to do Your will

When You call I won't delay
This my song through all my days

All my delight is in You Lord
All of my hope, all of my strength
All of my delight is in You Lord Forevermore"

"For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it." Romans 8:24-25
