For from His fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. John 1:16

piano girls

for as long as i can remember, i have wanted to play the piano. i love everything about it...the look, the sound, the feel of the keys. the piano is one of those instruments that, when i hear it playing, i must close my eyes and listen. it awakens something in my soul.

now, confession time...i have no idea how to play the piano.

but, lately, i have had the opportunity by playing with my girls as they practice piano. the girls began taking piano lessons about five months ago. and i enjoy getting to learn alongside them! while i may never play a recital or even play very well...i am having fun as i "tickle the ivories."

La la la de de da
la la de de da da dum

at our first recital in May 2012

Can you play me a memory
I'm not really sure how it goes
But its sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete
When I wore a younger man's clothes

ladybug played two songs, Wind in the Trees and The Shepherd's Flute

sunshine played, The Old Clock

the songs are Primer Level songs. both girls were really nervous and played very softly
but it was beautiful! they had only been playing the songs for about a month
and were brave to play their first recital so soon.

Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright

paper heart

found in Google images
have you ever experienced true love? the kind that does not hold contempt and knows no boundaries.

get real!?! this is a crazy careless world, full of crazy careless people. besides, true love is not for you. right?

i know that my heart has been ripped apart and left behind by people i trusted the most, people from whom i yearned to receive unconditional love.

out of a broken world comes broken people who pass on their brokenness. and what i have come to realize is that we have a choice. yes, we do. we can either continue this legacy of brokenness or set a new one in motion.

there is true love for you. there is a love that does not hold contempt, no matter what we have done or where we have been. a love that knows no boundaries. a love that never ends. a love so real!

God's love is greater than our torn hearts, greater than our brokenness. He is the Seamstress that picks up the pieces of our torn and scattered dreams and mends our paper hearts.

i am clinging to His love. and He has set anew my life and the legacy that i will leave behind. God has written His name on my paper heart! and He will write His name on yours!

My Paper Heart, Francesca Battistelli

Well I’ve been treated like a valentine
That’s been ripped apart and left behind
I’m a fragile girl
In a crazy careless world
My dreams were torn and scattered on the floor
But You’ve been picking up the pieces, Lord
‘Cause Your love is real
The only hope to heal
My paper heart is Yours now
I have landed in Your hands
Come so far to find out
My life will never be the same
Since you wrote Your name
On my paper heart
I had been so terrified to trust
So many times I’d been reduced to dust
But You keep showing me
You’re the safest place to be
Never knew that I could feel the way I feel
Never knew that there could be a love so real
Never knew that I could feel the way I feel right now

i'm hopeful

i'm hurting;
i'm seeking;
i'm falling.

i'm sensing;
i'm closing;
i'm releasing.

i'm hopeful;
He's strong;
i'm hopeful.

clouds shadow
warmth gives way
all was full, no more

darkness dominate
sadness evident
all was full, no more

rain pours
heart slows
all was full, no more

time shall mend, undone
eyes shall see, unseen

faith will reveal...protect...increase
all is full, once more

happy mother's day!

maybe i will never sleep past 7:00 in the morning
and maybe i will never have time to brush my hair
and maybe i will never be able to eat a full meal without getting up and down a million times.
it's worth it.
maybe it will take me twice as long to do everything
and maybe i will never have a really clean house
and maybe my days of staying out late with friends are over.
it's worth it.
anything i have to give up is worth just that one minute when they look at me and call me, "mom,"
when those little hands grab mine and those big eyes look at me as if i hold the keys to the world.
it's worth it.

Psalm 7

O Lord my God, in You I have taken refuge;
Save me from all those who pursue me,
and deliver me,
Or he will tear my soul like a lion,
Dragging me away, while there is none to deliver.

O Lord my God, if I have done this,
If there is injustice in my hands,
If I have rewarded evil to my friend,
Or have plundered him who without cause was my adversary,
Let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it;
And let him trample my life down to the ground
And lay my glory in the dust.

Arise, O Lord, in Your anger;
Lift up Yourself against the rage of my adversaries,
And arouse Yourself for me; You have appointed judgment.

Let the assembly of the peoples encompass You,
And over them return on high.
The Lord judges the peoples;
Vindicate me, O Lord, according to my righteousness and my integrity that is in me.
O let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous;
For the righteous God tries the hearts and minds.
My shield is with God,
Who saves the upright in heart.
God is a righteous judge,
And a God who has indignation every day.

If a man does not repent, He will sharpen His sword;
He has bent His bow and made it ready.
He has also prepared for Himself deadly weapons;
He makes His arrows fiery shafts.
Behold, he travails with wickedness,
And he conceives mischief and brings forth falsehood.
He has dug a pit and hollowed it out,
And has fallen into the hole which he made.
His mischief will return upon his own head,
And his violence will descend upon his own pate.

I will give thanks to the Lord according to His righteousness
And will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.

Isaiah 42:1-6

"Look at my servant, whom I strengthen. He is my chosen one, and I am pleased with him. I have put my Spirit upon him. He will reveal justice to the nations. He will be gentle - he will not shout or raise his voice in public. He will not crush those who are weak or quench the smallest hope. He will bring full justice to all who have been wronged. He will not stop until truth and righteousness prevail throughout the earth. Even distant lands beyond the sea will wait for his instruction."

God, the Lord, created the heavens and stretched them out. He created the earth and everything in it. He gives breath and life to everyone in all the world. And it is he who says, "I, the Lord, have called you to demonstrate my righteousness. I will guard and support you, for I have given you to my people as the personal confirmation of my covenant with them. And you will be a light to guide all nations to me..."

We do not know the true value of our moments until they have undergone the test of memory.  ~Georges Duhamel

A word is dead
When it is said,
Some say.

I say it just
Begins to live
That day.

Psalm 63

O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly;
My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You,
In a dry and weary land where there is no water.

Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and Your glory.
Because Your lovingkindness is better than life,
My lips will praise You.

So I will bless You as long as I live;
I will lift up my hands in Your name.
My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness,
And my mouth offers praises with joyful lips.

When I remember You on my bed,
I meditate on You in the night watches,
For You have been my help,
And in the shadow of Your wings I sing for joy.

My soul clings to You;
Your right hand upholds me.

But those who seek my life to destroy it,
Will go into the depths of the earth.
They will be delivered over to the power of the sword;
They will be a prey for foxes.

But the king will rejoice in God;
Everyone who swears by Him will glory,
For the mouth of those who speak lies will be stopped.

Psalm 16

Preserve me, O God, for I take refuge in You.
I said to the Lord, "You are my Lord;
I have no good besides You."

As for the saints who are in the earth,
They are the majestic ones in whom is all my delight.
The sorrows of those who have bartered for another god will be multiplied;
I shall not pour out their drink offerings of blood,
Nor will I take their names upon my lips.

The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup;
You support my lot.
The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places;
Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me.

I will bless the Lord who has counseled me;
Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night.
I have set the Lord continually before me;
Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will dwell securely.
For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol;
Nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay.

You will make known to me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.

tap root

Most trees have a tap root. a tap root is a large root that grows down vertically and, after a few years, changes and other roots grow horizontally from it. a tap root helps sustain a tree in high winds.

we visited a farm recently where the family is rooted in a legacy that resembles the tap root. Farmer Frank and his wife bought the acreage that they named Tap Root Farm over 50 years ago with hopes that their family would grow "roots" deep into the land, the land would provide most of what they needed, and their family would storm through on the farm for generations to come.

it was such a pleasure meeting Farmer Frank, his daughter, Susan, and their family. we are thankful for the tour and the time they spent with us. we were enlightened by the beauty and the richness of the land and how the farm is used to provide for their family.

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord

And whose trust is the Lord.

For he will be like a tree planted by the water,

That extends its roots by a stream

And will not fear when the heat comes;

But its leaves will be green,

And it will not be anxious in a year of drought

Nor cease to yield fruit.

~ Jeremiah 17:7-8

til there was you

There were bells on the hill
But I never heard them ringing
No, I never heard them at all
Til there was you.

There were birds in the sky
But I never saw them winging
No, I never saw them at all
Til there was you.

And there was music,
And there were wonderful roses,
They tell me,
In sweet fragrant meadows of dawn and dew.

There was love all around
But I never heard it singing
No, I never heard it at all
Til there was you!

Psalm 146

Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord, O my soul!
I will praise the Lord while I live;
I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.

Do not trust in princes,
In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation.
His spirit departs, he returns to the earth;
In that very day his thoughts perish.
How blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
Whose hope is in the Lord his God,
Who made heaven and earth,
The sea and all that is in them;
Who keeps faith forever;
Who executes justice for the oppressed;
Who gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets the prisoners free.

The Lord opens the eyes of the blind;
The Lord raises up those who are bowed down;
The Lord loves the righteous;
The Lord protects the strangers;
He supports the fatherless and the widow,
But He thwarts the way of the wicked.
The Lord will reign forever,
Your God, O Zion, to all generations.
Praise the Lord!

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning,
the women took spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.
They found the stone rolled away from the tomb,
but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
While they were wondering about this,
suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them.
In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground,
but the men said to them, 'Why do you look for the living among the dead?
He is not here; he has risen!'
Luke 24:1-6

"Atoning Sacrifice
Keeper of this life
Hallelujah, you are Savior

Beginning and the End
Forgiver of my sin
By your mercy you have saved us

Jesus, you are stronger
More than any other
Hallelujah, what a Savior

Jesus, you are higher
My soul's deepest desire
Hallelujah, you are Savior

You are the Shepherd King
You lead us by still waters
Hallelujah, you are Savior

You are my only hope
Your kindness is my friend
In your presence, you restore us

Jesus, you are stronger
More than any other
Hallelujah, what a Savior

Jesus, you are higher
My soul's deepest desire
Hallelujah, you are Savior

You are the way the truth and the life
You are my joy and my salvation
Stood in my place, taking my shame upon your shoulders

Jesus, you are stronger
More than any other
Hallelujah, what a Savior

Jesus, you are higher
My soul's deepest desire
Hallelujah, you are Savior"

"There is no surprise more magical than the surprise of being loved." ~ Charles Morgan

Luke 23:13-24, 33-35, 44-46
Pilate summoned the chief priests and the rulers and the people, and said to them, "You brought this man to me as one who incites the people to rebellion, and behold, having examined Him before you, I have found no guilt in this man regarding the charges which you make against Him. No, nor has Herod, for he sent Him back to us; and behold, nothing deserving death has been done by Him..."

But they cried out all together, saying, "Away with this man..."

They kept on calling out, saying, "Crucify, crucify Him!"

And he said to them the third time, "Why, what evil has this man done? I have found in Him no guilt demanding death..."

But they were insistent, with loud voices asking that He be crucified. And their voices began to prevail.

...there they crucified Him...But Jesus was saying, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing." ...And the people stood by, looking on...

It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour,
because the sun was obscured; and the veil of the temple was torn in two.

And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit."

Having said this, He breathed His last.
