in control

this time last week, we were...pacing the floor of a hospital room...watching our baby tackle a new challenge as he lay unable to move his lower body...looking strong on the outside...awake over 24 hours straight...thankful that uncomfortable chairs had provided some rest...staring in disbelief at the spica cast that hosted our baby...praising God our baby awoke from sedation...trying to decide when to pick up our girls and what to do with them next...listening to classical music set to nature scenes on the tv...thinking about and roughly planning the next six weeks...giving kisses and singing Jesus Loves Me countless times...keeping ourselves from being overwhelmed...praising God for only a broken leg...talking with orthopaedic doctors, residents, nurses, rehab specialists, and trying to process every word...looking at x-rays of our baby's right leg...making ourselves eat and drink to prolong the physical crash...spending time on the phone explaining and informing...consoling our baby as he whimpered...ordering a little of everything on the room-service menu not knowing what he might try to eat...learning all over again how to care for and travel with him…praising God for caring, loving, exceptional nurses...anticipating his first tinkle and then the release to go home...praying, crying, praying...thanking Him for being in control...
